Annual Exams
Annual Exams are an important part of maintaining a healthy lifestyle. A typical annual exam consists of a pelvic exam, Pap smear, and breast exam. If you’re over age 40, we will also perform a screening for colon cancer. Depending on age, we may also evaluate the need for mammography and bone density studies. Options for contraception, hormone therapy, and any other questions or concerns you may have are discussed.
Annual exams should be booked three months in advance to ensure that you are seen within 30 days of your previous annual exam. Most insurance providers allow you to have one annual exam per calendar year; however, if you inquire upon scheduling your exam, we will confirm that your insurance time requirements are met.
If Medicare will only pay for a Pap smear every three years, we encourage you to schedule annual appointments anyway. As mentioned, the annual exam covers much more than just a Pap smear.
